Appartment on Ceintuurbaan looks very uncertain. Owner decided to go for registered bids, which means every candidate will have to come up with one first and final bid on monday. No negotiations, which means our early bid was useless. Somebody else is bound to take a bigger chance on the state of the buildings foundations (the “Venice of the North” is sinking too), so the appartment-hunt continues.

Might have to rent something in the mean time, which thanks to a near-monopoly of state regulated social housing is ludicrously expensive in this country. Unless you don’t mind being on a waiting list for about a decade, in which case you’ll only have to pay a fraction of what the place is really worth. I consider myself a leftie, but sometimes I wish socialism was never invented.

In other news, got an invitation for a job interview this afternoon. My current contract expires at the end of next month, and although I’ve been promised a new 1-year contract, I haven’t signed anything yet. So I’ve floated my C.V. on Monsterboard, see what the headhunters come up with. The usual crap mostly (”you wanna switch to .NET?” What the fuck do you think “open source activist” on my C.V. means?), but this one sounded interesting. Not actively applying for anything, just exploring my options.

Been way to busy to make the deadline for “Sterren Dansen op het IJs” to do much blogging. To quote Douglas Adams: “I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by.” Well, this one came, went, and only made a slightly stuttering noise on passing.

Made an opening bid for the Ceintuurbaan appartment. Not much to look at, but nice location (de Pijp, round the corner from Sarphatipark) and has what the pro’s euphemistically call “possibilities”. In other words, lots of work to be done, but inhabitable. Already looking forward to tearing down the awful cheap plastic kitchen.

Yesterdays tape-delayed internet stream went just fine. Ran into Joan Musgrave on the way back home. Over a decade ago we were part of a small group of coders and artists that tried to put together an alternative RPG called Charisma, until the Internet happened and changed everything. Turns out she lives just a few blocks away. She’s still coding Visual Basic apps for Hoogheemraadschap.

After this mornings deluge the roof at the office started leaking again. I’ve changed desks since the leak is directly above my head, glad I haven’t had time to move back again. There’s a wet spot we’re I used to sit. Maybe I should take that as a sign.

Aquent called me to give Mehmet a reference. Gonna make him fetch me coffee all day first.

Been a long day, gonna get longer still…

Talked with the guys from Pocos about the new serverpark. Checked out an appartment on the Ceintuurbaan this afternoon. This could be the one. On the way back, spotted the lovely Mel on the Weteringschans.

Putting the final touches on the site for the ice dance show. Set up a blog for former sports writer and now head of SBS Sports Lex Muller.

Meanwhile I’m getting harassed by headhunters since I re-activated my CV on Monsterboard. Perhaps I should have waited I while longer.
And now I’m just waiting for the tape and Garniers’ techie to show up so we can do another semi-live stream of the new Hart van Nederland early edition for a test-audience.

The inevitable has happened: I’m blogging.
